July 2007 Issue

It has always been our goal to have the Women’s Conference extend beyond the walls of the Long Beach Convention Center. Along with our website, this newsletter will build on that goal, creating a year-round virtual community which is as strong and vibrant as that of our Conference Day. We wanted to begin our first edition of More Than Just a Day by introducing the 2007 Women’s Conference Theme:

Each year, during the conference day, we are joined by some of the most dynamic speakers in the world, showcasing their amazing lives and legacies.

We added the line "What’s Yours?" to our theme because we wanted to be mindful of the fact that each of us, whether you’re a teacher, a mother, a bank vice-president --have a legacy. We feel it’s important to ask everyone take a moment to think about what is yours.

We've come up with the Conference Pledge that we hope will focus and guide you towards that goal. We’re encouraging you to live your own life -- not that of your kids or your spouse, not that of your boss or coworkers, but your own remarkable life. We believe that taking this pledge will give us a shared sense of purpose. By empowering ourselves to live our own legacies, we can help other women do the same.

  1. I pledge to "show up" in my life as myself, not as an imitation of anyone else.
  2. I pledge to avoid using the word "just" to describe myself. For example, I won't say, "I'm just a mother," "I'm just a student," or "I'm just an ordinary person."
  3. I pledge to give myself ten minutes of silence and stillness every day to get in touch with my heart and hear my own voice.
  4. I pledge to use my voice to connect my dreams to my actions.
  5. I pledge to use my voice to empower myself and others.
  6. I pledge to serve my community at least once a year in a way that will benefit other women.
  7. I pledge to ask myself, "Who am I? What do I believe in? What am I grateful for? What do I want my life to stand for?"
  8. I pledge to sit down and write my own mission statement.
  9. I pledge to live my own legacy.
  10. And I pledge to pass it on.

The Conference will be held on October 23, 2007 at the Long Beach Convention Center. We have so much amazing content that this year’s conference will begin a half an hour earlier at 8:00 a.m.

Online registration begins at www.californiawomen.org on Monday, July 16th at 9 a.m. (PDT). I urge you not to delay, since the Conference is expected to again sell out quickly. And if you can’t attend, watch the Conference live on our website.
